Are you accountable to yourself?

When we hear the word accountability, often it will be somewhat synonymous in our minds with some one else holding us accountable. (Like our coaches here at Bill Fields’ All Star Coaching!)

Some of us think of accountability as telling people what we intend to do and then taking the flack if we should fail to do that.

In fact what is much more important is that you remain accountable to yourself. At the end of the day, most people don’t care about what you do most of the time. That might sound bleak but it’s true. Being accountable to yourself then is what really matters and it’s what will make you act better in your business and life.

The opposite of being accountable to yourself is making excuses. When you fail to do what you set out to accomplish one day, what do you do? Many of us will find ourselves making excuses meaning that we will claim we had the odds stacked against us, that everyone else was out to get us or that we were just tired and thus not performing our best.

All of this might make us feel a little better but in the long run it doesn’t help us. Blaming other people never got anyone anywhere!

You need to own up to the things you need to do and being accountable to yourself.

At the same time you should also just try to get into the habit of stopping making excuses. Hold yourself to higher standards and acknowledge that while there is always an element of luck in your success… you do still make your own luck!

Thought for today: Accountability breeds response-ability!!
